SID's [M&W] Review... Or something. Ha! XD

[M&W]
Artist: SID
Release: 2012*08*01

So, I'll try to post this before August 1st ends XD Let's get to it! >w<9

I was waiting for this because I wanted it to be a lot better than dead stock, the last album they released, about a year ago, or something. I liked that one, but I didn’t LOVE it.

But, if we talk about this one… Gee, I’m so pleased to say I’m in LOVE indeed =w= XD

Now, first of all, I must make a pair of notes: all the lyrics are written by Mao, the vocalist. And, since all of them are in japanese and I still can't get it that well, I'm just gonna talk about the ones I'm supposed to know about XD

All the melodies are either composed by Shinji (Guitar), Aki (Bass) or Yuuya (Drums). I'm going to specify each one in every song, so, no worries XDDD

Also, I'm sorry if this sounds like a fangirl review. I'll try to be as objective as possible (although there's no such thing as objectivity in this world u.ub), but it might still be biased. Won't promise much u.ub Also, I dunno much about music so, this "review" might be pretty lame XD You've been warned! XD

OK, let's start from the beginning! :)

1. Konagona Composed by Shinji

This one's pretty rock-pop like. You can hear the bass clearly. It's pretty much the same SID's been doing lately. You can appreciate the fact that they've been improving a lot at instrumentation and coordination, maybe. But it isn't surpisingly awesome. It ain't bad, I liked it very, VERY much. But using this song as the first one of the album can give you either a familiarity, comfy sensation, or give you the wrong idea that all this is more of the same XDDD

2. Ghost apartment Composed by Aki

A merry, bouncy tune XD FTS! Aki's melodies are always my favourites. And this one's no exception. I don't know much about these rhythms, but I dare to say this one's got very strong rocky swing features. Also, Mao's interpretation makes you want to sing as much as Aki, Shinji and Yuuya's instrumentation makes you want to dance to their tunes XDD Mao's voice, his long notes and his high notes seem quite nice. They aren't annoying. Also, he seems to have had lots of fun when he sang it XD

The metal/wind instruments use (trumpets and stuff XD) consolidate that swingy taste. I expected a lot from this one when I read the tracklist before this album was released... And I'm very pleased with the result. Not quite what I was expecting, but I loved it much. It's definitely one of my favs u.u

3. Fuyu no benchi Composed by Yuuya

One of the singles they released: December 28th, 2011. It's a poppy song. Very pretty, and very girly XD There's string use (you know, violins and stuff XD). I think it could be used as a shoujo, very shoujo anime ending XD It's all sparkly and the melody's sweet. I do like it, but I dunno what else to say about it XD What I did love with all my heart was the single's B-side :BBB It was...somehow bubbly, but bittersweet. And when I read those lyrics, I understood what  gave it that feeling XD

Anyway, there's a vid for Fuyu no benchi. You can watch it here, because it ain't at Youtube >:I You can also listen to the B-side here. Otori, it's called. I love it very much :BBB

4. Ito Composed by Aki

This one's got an electro-pop (?) flavour. It starts with a piano, and then Mao's voice. And then it fully starts about 40 seconds later XD But this one's one of those desperate-yet-hopeful melodies that I happen to like much XD Bass is an important component...but Shinji's guitar riff gives it a lot of strength. And Mao's voice...makes me want to sing along, as always. He puts so much passion in it! XDDD

5. Café de Bossa Composed by Yuuya

It reminds me slightly of dead stock's Ii Hito. Only this one starts (like NO LDK, from dead stock too) with a vague bossa nova tune. And then it's poppy XD I dunno. It gives me the impression of an evening dusk in a café at a coast town. A pair of friends or an hetero pairing (or maybe a very gay one XD) are together and decide to go out and stroll around to have a good time... XDD It starts with Mao's voice and an acoustic guitar. Then, two guitars: one acoustic and the other one, electric, bass and drums :3 I dunno, but most of the melodies Yuuya composes have some sort of bouncy, bubbly, sparkly, nice, positive thingy in them XD Mao uses some high pitched tunes here too and his voice sounds quite fresh here XD

6. S Composed by Aki

Oooooh, S! XD Another single. May 9th, 2012. It was the theme song for Sadako 3D's movie XD Yes, The Ring girl XD God, this one proves that, if they were a visual band like, I dunno, The Gazette (I don't like them much, tho ^^; *runs away*), they would do a great job too XDDD Absolute rock, people XD I think this is the heaviest I've listened of them since Memai (capsule, from hikari, is a nice try too, but Memai and S...uuuff! XD) From the dark tunes at the beginning of the melody with the bass, the drums and the damn guitar requintos. The strength of Mao's performance with the lyrics... I also firmly believe this is one of the songs that show how good they are together and how perfectly they complete each other's work T^T9 Also, the fact that this one comes right after those sugar balls (Café de Bossa and Fuyu no benchi) is proof of their versatility u.u

Note: don't try to sing it unless you already have a grasp of the rhythm and you've practised repeating the lyrics high speed-y... Otherwise, your tongue will tie horribly XD

I also loved the B-side of the single :) Here's the link to watch S PV. And to listen to Rainy Day, it's B-side. Jazzy and nice~ ;)

7. MOM Composed by Shinji

Funky~! :DD The guitar and its effects, the sax and trumpets... I dunno. I can even see them all dressed in funky clothes and performing that song on stage XD Mao wearing big sunglasses and a hat XD Bass, drums, keyboard... I think this one was a good shot at a funky song and I love the fact that they try to experiment this kind of things. It reminds me vaguely of  cosmetic (another dead stock song and also a single they released about a week after my birthday that year =w=) and it's got a certain air of sophistication-perversion-seduction that... I do like XD The dark tunes on Mao's voice and the sax contribute greatly to that feeling XD

8. Itsuka Composed by Shinji

Hahaha... Ahm... I must confess this is not one of my favourites. I do like it, it is quite catchy, but it just doesn't fulfill my music needs XD It's rock-pop. Truth be told, I like its B-side a lot more XDDD This was, then, also a single: September 28th, 2011. As I said, it is catchy... I found myself hearing the very first phrase inside my head and singing it aloud whenever Tú (that's my brain, again) strolled around and left the building XD

Here's the link for you to listen...since they've taken the PV from...everywhere :I Please ignore the pics. Just listen if you might XD And here's Akikaze, the B-side. Sounds so childish when it starts. But I like it XDDD

9. Dress Code Composed by Aki

*shivers* Arooooooo~! So playful!! °((>w<))° What can I say? THIS is my undisputed favourite from this album. Aki, you've done it again, teme! >''<9 You almost never say much, but the way you write music makes it up for you, man! It starts with a slightly sneaky and light piano XD Then drums, bass and guitar and darker piano tunes. It's just so rhythmic. It's also got some jazzy flavour...but the high-pitched and dance-y piano gives it some latin flavour too. Then it changes, as it heads to the middle and it becomes slightly rocky-poppy-wavy-whatever... I dunno! XDDD And then, it returns and fits perfectly into the jazzy-latin tune it had before. Also Mao's voice. He plays around with his voice in this one. He starts smoothly...and then the high-pitched "tu-tu"s crown the long notes . I liked that very much XD And then he becomes energic, at the chorus and the rhythm change... I dunno. It's like a rhapsody of weird-nice stuff that I loved a lot °((>w<))° But! I also think not many might like this if they don't like sudden changes in their music XDDD I think they had much fun when they performed it XD But I also think this ain't one of the ones they'll be playing at their tour ;^; As all the ones I love *cries manly tears in a corner* XDDD

10. gossip!! Composed by Shinji

This is bouncy XD Rocky. Makes me feel happy XD I think this is just a way to confirm what I've been saying: they seem to complement each other very much and that's so nice ;^; XD It's got an 80's feeling to it. And high-schooler. Or so I feel XD It's a funny song XD As though you could sing it right before you started the summer break XD

11. Nokoriga Composed by Yuuya

Another single. It was released exactly a week before S: May 2nd, 2012. Gawd. This is just such a pretty song ;^; String support again, violins and stuff, the lyrics, Mao's velvety voice~ <3... Here, listen to it :3 I think both songs (gossip!! and this one) make a nice culmination for this album :3

I also loved this B-side. I even wanna use it for my Graduation XD

In conclusion! I liked it all very much, my favourites were Ghost apartment and Dress Code, composed by Aki and now I want the romaji for them all, so I can sing them whenever I want =w= And this album made me remember why this is my favourite band u.u

Lalala~ Sorry. Fangirl off XDDD

  1. Haahaha!! Objectivity totally exists, only because I love to objectify men XDD

Your music reviews are so detailed! Mine's are just like: omg sexy lyrics, need more of this shit! And for a complete music-noob, your review felt totally music-savvy. I can barely tell there is a bass/drum keeping beat behind most music unless I focus really really hard on it /shot

It's been such a long time since I heard a SID song XD I still love their old ones though (uso is the one that usually pops up in my mind! XD)

    1. Hahaha! But that's not the kind of objectivation I meant, Kuro huuuuun~ XDDD

Aio says just the same D: But you should've seen dead stock's. THAT was detailed XD This one's just lame because that's as far as my English vocabulary can go XD Thank you very much, dear. I'm trying my best XD

Hahaha! That used to happen to me too. But I guess...having a bass lover for a brother pays back some stuff XDD Also, it was because of SID that I started paying more attention to these kinda things XD

Awwww~ I love Uso~ <3 They're a nice band. As I said, I love them because they take different genres of music and try to use them. Their results are usually nice :3 That's what made me fall in love with their music. And their dorkiness (do you write it that way?) made me fall in love with them XDDDD

My favourite song of all time by them is Nakidashita Onna to Kyomukan. It came in the hikari album, where they also featured Uso. Here's Naki, in case you're interested u/////u

I just love Mao's voice there, so..."indifferent" and..."cold"... Until they reach the chorus of course XD The xylophone at the very beginning, the power of the bass, the guitar effects, the drums that make the wonderful beat... *shivers* And the instrumental bridge! °((>w<))° I think this is the very first song where I could clearly appreciate the perfection of them as a band XDDDD

The lyrics are about a sadomasochistic relationship where the girl (who is the masochist) left the boy (the sadist). The thing here is she came back to him and he's like...telling her off because of that... Somehow humiliating her?

I dunno... And I realized, today, that the rhythm is pretty much like Dress Code's, from this new album... Maybe that's why I liked it that much. But Naki's still my fav, fav, FAV!! >w<9

...OK, sorry. I talked too much. Gonna shut up now >3> Listen to it, if you might. If you don't, it's OK too >3> Sorry again.

    2. You know I loveeee bending words.

I JUST LISTENED TO THE SONNNNG~~ It is lovely, for such a dark concept, the tune was really cute... and fluffy (?) Me and my sisters' music taste are usually rather conventional, we hear something we like on the radio and go download XDDD And yes, I think that's how you write dorkiness, either dorkiness or dorkyness... not sure actually XD

I love it when my Rincon-kun rants over stuff she loveeees~~ ;DD I don't mind it at all! XD

    3. Hahaha! Me too XDDD There aren't just enough words or my voc ain't good enough, so I have to bend them together XD

Thanks very much for listening to it *bows* Cute and fluffy XDDD I find it quite seductive, because of the deepness and presence of the bass XDDD Oh... Well, my taste is conventional too...sometimes. It's just I sometimes get tired of the same songs on the radio u.u And I rather put my earphones on XD

Cool XDD I could barely sleep thinking about that XDDD

Thanks ^^ Am glad you do like my ranting XDDD I love yours too because you tend to make me laugh every time...and also get interested XD That's a good thing XD
